My 95' 1-ton,5-spd runs hot(220+ degs. ) when loaded(gross wt. 25,000 to 38,000). I have a 10 plate with jim jessup 230 hp injectors and timing at 15deg. In the last year the pyro started showing heat(1500). Rad. is new and I'm lost on what to look at next to cool this thing down. Thanks for any info.

95' 1-ton, 4x4, flatbed, 5-spd, scotty II, 10 plate, timing 15 deg, injectors, gv overdrive, 216,000 miles, my work truck.

95' 3/4 ton, ex-cab, auto 4x4, 8 plate, 267,000 miles, my good truck

Water pump and or thermostat? is your condenser/intercooler plugged up? do you consistently run 1500deg on the egt's??

The rad. and condesor are clean, I clean them ofton due the dusty conditions I run in on the farm all the time. I put a new water pump on a few years back but it was not a cummins and I wonder if that has anything to to with it. Also wonder if the inj pump may have something wrong. Yes I can run 1500 deg easy but that is a recent problem. The engine temp has been a persistant problem for some time. I use my foot to control my egt's. Once the engine is cured the egt's will be cured with a little bigger turbo.

Thanks brian

I changed out a water pump that wasn't a Cummins and noted an increase in temps right away. What I noticed was that the replacement didn't have the same impeller, it didn't have the outer plate on it. Changed it out for one with it and the temps were back to normal, even lower.

Here's a picture of a pump with the plate I'm talking about.

pull the cap and watch the water as it warms

On my 95 and my Dads 97 we had to replace the fan clutchs, When you start it it should sound like a jet landing and after severial minutes it should go away.

I've put one new fan clutch on(truck was wrecked and got a new fan, rad. intercooler, and condensor) but it made no difference. Also have swapped a fan off of another truck but no luck. Going to try the water pump first and then I'll get back with you guys and let you know how that worked.

Don't think I want to go with the water or meth route just yet. Even though it will cool my egt's I think I'll try a different turbo to cool them.

Thanks

brian
