Question about my body lift to fit my 6bt in my burban? pics..

Ok I was getting great help on the phone from you great cummins guys. I was going to use my 4l80e trans and I was told I would kill it and the adapter is alot of $$$. Also even if I use this it won't work very long even if I build it up. oh well.

Anyhow I was told to use the 47 rh from the new yrs and that would be the ticket as long as I do not run the hp up to far.

I was wondering if I put this in what hp can I run. Also I did some searching here and guys are saying about the high $$$ tc and vb.

I just want to know use the 4l80e or the 47rh?

What hp can both of these take in stock condition?

If you have a choice what would you do?

Thanks Joe

A few thoughts

In my conversion I converted an 01 47RE to a 47RH transmission by replacing the the overdrive section and valve body. I kept as many RE parts as possible and it seems many were built much stronger. It seems like you were going to use a p-pumped motor and I would suggest that you consider an upgraded torque convertor and a shift kit. It is easy to spend a bunch of money on a transmission but it should take a lot more than stock with the upgrades a just described. There are people that are more knowledgable than me about these trannies so hopefully someone else can chime in. If you keep it under 300hp and don't race from light to light you will hold up I believe with what I am mentioning. In its stock form the 47rh broke about every 100k or so behind a stock Cummins. The Cummins can really lay out the torque and is plain old hard on trannies.

Well I am going with a 97 6bt engine. I am going to put it in and go from there. I am starting with a 180 /2500 rpm motor and a 47rh trans. It will be for the family - fun vehicle. That is the plan for now.

update.....

Ok I found a transer case and trans. the trans is a 47 re. Now I have to decide what to do again. I was talking to ats about there valve bodies and maybe going electric with the 47 re. I am not sure if this is the way to go.

I guess I am going to start from scratch and think about this again.

I guess I am wondering is the electrics worth the hassel on the 47re or try to find a 47 rh. The upgrade to the electrics using the ats valve body and the standalone to make it do what ever I want it to do will run me $1600. I am just wondering if I do electric is it worth it or just buy the 47re and convert it to the rh?:confused:

What do you think?

Are you going to keep the IFS or do a solid front axle conversion?? I have a 99 'Burb that I want to do a Cummins conversion and I'm wondering if the IFS will hold up under the weight of a cummins (and possibly a custom front bumper/winch) or if I need to put a dana 60 under it.

You can keep the IFS

As far as the RE transmission goes you ned to find an RH valve body and overdrive shaft. It requires a bit of modification but the RE can be converted, and it shouldn't cost $1600. If you do decide to do the RE and upgrade the valve body etc. . it would be nice to upgrade the torque convertor while you are at it. Another option is to pull the TPS and all of the computer parts off of a Dodge and use them.
