5. 02 dodge ic

5. aftermarket trans cooler

6. 1" body lift

That is about the basics

update.....

Well I got alot of things done right now but still not running. Alot of things are fighting me and have to keep changing things around . Anyhow I got it almost running and atlest I could of heard it run tonight since starting this project but still no go . We worked on this for the last 4 days and my goal was to hear it start and run by tonight but of corse not. Yea go figures the starter is dead . All it does it clicks... . aaarrrrgggg.

Also ran into radiator problem. Here the battery is in the way of the inlet hose for the rad. another problem go figure. Not sure what I am going to do about this on. Maybe I can get a smaller batt or maybe somehow I can slide it over but I don't think it will move over another mm vrs the 1 inch I need.

I wish I would of saw this sooner but atleast I have some time to think on it this week. Weekend is basically the only time I have to work on it.

Another thing I did forget to add to my problems is the prndl switch. I am not sure what I am going to do about this. I did find out I have to keep the prndl switch atached for the starter to engage. Oh well we will see what the future holds.

Also the starter was bad... .

Well I got the starter back from the rebuild shop. Now the starter works good but for some reason the starter will not touch the flywheel. It looks like the starter needs to be moved in and further back. I don't understand what am I missing. this sucks after removing it 10 times and I just don't know what I am missing.

Also the flywheel is not on backwards. The lip is is facing back toward the trans.

update...more bad news... I need to get this running..

Well the starter that I just rebuilt is *** backwards. the one for the cummins is rotated 180 and that is what happened. Anyhow now it cranks & just cranks . Atleast the starter is figured out.

Now for the next problem. I cleaned the fuel bowl. replaced the fuel filter and filled the filter up with atf & diesel. I primmed the system and cranked for 10 sec & wait and do it all over again. Well I got nowhere. Anyhow I took off the first line at the delivery valve and I am not getting any fuel out of there. What could this be. I got fuel at the filter and none at the injectors. It seems like the ip is not pumping fuel.

anyone know?

I am starting to really hate this project. Everything keeps fighting me along the way.

Thanks for posting, Hang in there, you will be the expert when
finished...

From reading posts, need to bleed the injector lines.
And is Fuel solenoid wired and working, I think there is a manual
over ride to turn it on...

Well After screwing with it for anouther day it finally runs I took all the lines off at the delivery valves and nothing. After that I shut the return line. I got constant pressure at lift pump. Then I cranked and crack the return line. Fuel but no start. Then Finally after cranking and checking I got some white/brown/ugy fuel stuff. After that I closed the lines and opened all the injector lines till it got the garbage out. Really nasty from sitting. After that I closed all the lines and cranked and cranked for about 20 sec. Nothing. Removed 2 lines and was getting fuel... ... hhhhhmmmmmmm... ... nothing... .

Then I tightened the lines again... . nothing just cranked... .....

HAD ENOUGH..... NEED SOME HELPER

While she was cranking I hit it with 1/2 sec of parts cleaner... ... . almost... ... ... crank again... ... . 1/2 again better... ... ... almost stall and 1/2 sec... ..... running weak but running for 30 secs... .

Notice oil at turbo everywhere... . shut down.

Turbo line shot. Got temp line and tried again. nothing... .

Had her crank it 1/2 shot again and runs weak like before but now it will atleast run.

Let it sit 1/2 hour and tried it again... ..... finally it will idle and trottle is there and seems to run ok... Now I will wait till tom and see if it will start nicely.

So in the end it was old fuel, water, dirt, slime that was there.

So now we will see what is next.....

Just so you know, your post has helped. Keep us in touch. I'm ready to start my truck but it's almost like I've been working on it for so long I'm almost afraid to start it. Now I'm inspired to get her going.....

I know I am just so happy that it runs now I can get to drive it this weekend and keep things moving. I did start it today and it started right up and idle was smooth:D

got it to move today

Well the day finally came. I got it turned around. Oo. Oo. My son had to move the gear selector at the trans from frive to reverse so we could get it turned around. I am not sure how I am going to get the gears on the trans to meet with the shifter. chevy shifts from front to back and dodge shift front back to front. Any ideas:confused: ?

took it for a drive today to get fuel....

For some reason I do not have a speedometer, shift up or down, Once it wants to shift it just freewheels, also I have not back lights at all.

I am working on the speed sensor and lights at the moment. I am tring to figure out what wires went to the speed sensor from the chevy.

Well I did not get a chance to look at anything since the last post. I got the flu. oh well. I slept most of the night and hopefully I can make more progress before thanksgiving

Sweet project. Got a 93 sub myself that I wondered about doing same thing to if 454 gives out. The shifter shouldn't be too hard after what you've already done. You could build some kind of bellcrank system, but it would be complicated and probably problematic. I would reccommend a cable shifter. Either an aftermarket shifter or convert your current column to cable shift. As long as you loop the cable around from the back of the trans it should work fine and wouldn't be affected by vibration. It would also be easier to route past any obstructions. Hope this helps. Sorry, don't know about the wiring problems.

Was looking at the parts list you gave and thinking about your shift problem. What are you using to control trans. Those later trans need a computer to tell them when to shift up and down. The 02 controller might be freaking out about not receiving signals from the 24valve. I'm pretty sure the 97 one requires the speed sensor connection to work correctly. I saw an aftermarket stand-alone controller a while back in a catalog, but I may have thrown it away. You probably already knew all this, but I'm one of those guys that tends to trip over what other people call the obvious:-laf.

Just remembered it was Pace Performance. Mostly Chevy stuff but there were a few jewels in there. Now why did I throw that out.....?

I used the ats standalone. It can control anything I want basically. the only thing it will not control is the pndl switch. I will work on that at a later date.

update..

Well today I got a exhaust system on. Now atleast it is more quiet. Also I got my speedometer working. It was the connector from the transfer case to the trans wiring that need put together. The other thing I got done was I removed the shift cable from under the seat now I have to run it through the firewall and get it hooked up.

update.....

Well here is an update. Truck runs ok. Here is what I am seeing.

The good

1. runs quiet

2. starts everytime ( pretty easy)

3. can hear the turbo ( only 15 psi )

The bad

1. trans runs about 50-100 ( guage don't move)

2. mpg is lower than I want

3. starter sticks sometimes ( week old starter)

4. engine only runs at 160-165 ( no engine fan installed)

Overall I am happy but need to address the bad issues:D.

still at 10.5 mpg

Well I keep checking the mpg. I am still only getting around 10. 5. After getting fuel in the last 2 weeks it seems that I get 10. 5-10. 8 around town and 18. 5-18. 6 on the highway.

basically I put in 5. 6-5. 7 gallons and I get 50-63 miles out of it. .

Maybe I will figure out this problem but it still sucks in the mean time.

Our 93 suburban 2500 4x4 454/auto w/4. 10's got 13 hwy and about 8-10 in town depending on how we drove it. You have to remember that it weighs like 6500 lbs before the cummins swap(which is heavier then the 454). That's a 6mpg increase over stock on the hwy and most 454 guys did not get the mileage we did. That's a 45% increase in fuel economyOo. . So, yeah, I'd say that is pretty good.
