Off Roading Power Steering Cooling

I was just wondering what I might expect from running a 9500 lb winch on a Ram 2500. I know its a little light for a 3/4 ton truck, but its off my old truck and barely used, so I figured since I have it I might as well put it on my Ram. Am I just more likely to stall out with a lighter winch or are there other thing I should be aware of using it? Its a Warn HS9500i by the way. Thanks

If it gets too much load, it'll just stall. A snatch block is a good option, but you cut your effective "reach" in half.

I run a ProPlus 9000 on my truck for a utility winch... it'll slide the truck with ease.

double effective power, halve your line speed with a snatch block. the 9500 will be fine. general rule is 1. 5x the vehicle weight and you are in the ball park without the snatch block. of course adding any incline of suction from mud is another thing.

i would not hesitate to run it unless you spend lots of time in the mud

I'm setting up the HS9500 Warn off of my old off road truck onto a multi mount for the front of my 2500. I would guess that it would do just fine on my 7400 lb Dodge. I previously had it on a 6500 lb Chevy on 44's. I have a lot of experience with winches in off road situations and I'll give you some opinions:

#1 Never get yourself into a situation where you have to rely on anything other than a Warn. Period.

#2 Battery connections and wire size do matter.

#3 I good hi output alternator will have more effect on your winch's performance than a big battery.

#4 AGM style batteries will discharge and recharge faster than lead acid. This will lead to better performance.

This picture was taken right after I broke my frame in half right between the bed and cab. That HS9500 with a 140 amp Powermaster and Red Top Optima pulled my 6500 lb truck around 400 ft up a very steep grade with only one rest to let the winch cool.

I have a 9K winch on a basket I will be wiring my truck for... but its an emergency/camping/hunting winch. . . If I were putting on a truck to use often I would get a 12K at least, and maybe a 16K... and I would put it in a VERY stout bumper, not a winch basket.
