I have been searching for another truck so I have many questions that pop up as I look at diffrent trucks. Looked at a 95 4x4 5 spd today, I know the HP is different than on 96 trucks but where did the 96 get the extra hp. I know injectors, what else? Also how hard is it to remove the oil pan on a 4X4?
TIA
John

Deezul 1,
I recall reading in post about positioning the fuel plate that the afc housing where the plate is located had to have a shem or spacer put in front of it to achieve the 215 hp. I will look in the archives to confrim this.
Oil pan haven't tried. But I just looked at the shop manual (tell me it ain't true #ad
) any way it says (Diesel engine doesn't designate anything else such as 4x4,4x2,auto, manual. This is short version. Not yelling just emphasizing. ) PULL THE TRANSMISSION(refer to trans/transfer case group),PULL THE STARTER,PULL FLYWHEEL RING GEAR ASSEMBLY, remove trans oil cooler bolts, drain fluid, remove pan bolts, suction tube, oil pan. Install reverse order.
For Deezul 1's sake does anyone know of an easier way.
Shop manual 96.

Thanks Bill
Boy that sounds like a pain, maybe the 4x4 is easier. Any other thoughts out there?

Deezul1:

It is my understanding that the
"difference" in the H. P. is in the
injectors and the set-up of the P7100
pumps. The 96' 5 speeds had the "good"
215 pumps in them. All 96' autos came
rated at 180 H. P.

Hope this helps some.
