I have a friend with a 96 12 valve auto with 300k and it takes forever to gain speed it. At the start of a overpass you can put it on the floor and it will only maintain speed its at speed. Truck runs smooth no white or black smoke. He doeesn't any gauges to tell what the boost and egts are. We think it is a fuel issue the mpgs are good about 20mpgs what are your thoughts ideas were to start at. We replaced the normal stuff like fuel and air filters. I am afraid its time for a injection pump. Thanks

My 97 would not get out of it's own way, even after adding a #10 fuel plate, followed by a #6 plate. I changed fuel filter and fiddled around forever.

Finally tracked it down to my throttle cable. I was getting about half the pedal travel I should have been getting. Either the cable was out of adjustment or just plain stretched. I think it was incorrectly installed. Anyway, adding a spacer to take up the slack transformed this truck. It breathes. It snorts. And it moves the way it should.

Check the cable!

And everyone is right here. Install gauges.

What are the rpms and speeds?

Fuel pressure should be over 20 psi after fuel filter. If not squeeze rubber return fuel line, if pressure goes up it's your overflow valve, if doesn't go up or goes up slowly it's your lft pump.

Agree with checking throttle cable/linkage, make sure it has full movement.

Mine had a bad fuel return hose. Slight dry rotting caused me months of grief. Also check the intercooler/connections. Good luck

I would venture a guess toward wastegate stuck open. Plug the line going to it with a screwdriver, pencil, etc. temporarily and see if it helps.

Good luck.
