Hello fellow members, hope I'm in the right place, I have not been on here alot, but I/my Transmission guy had an issue with my 47RE ten years after he rebuilt it for me. Two years before he rebuilt my transmission(2010), I had to let my Contractors license go due to lake of homes being built/ordered(Manufactured Homes)and get a "job", so my truck trailer sat and I drove my car to/from work. Now forward to today, my car(99 Chevy Lumina sedan 3.1L)I had to pronounce it "dead" due to Intake manifold gaskets leaking and taking out the cam, another story in and of it's self.
So I went back to my loved truck, but after a few months I ran into a HUGE problem that started by checking the dipstick on my transmission. It was low on fluid, which surprised me, since it sat for a long time, only driving it ever so often. So I added the quart I carry in the truck box on my way home from work, intending on stopping by O'Reilly's after work the next day to replace the used quart and make sure I'm topped off. However, after work I did what I said and was on the way home and leaving town I have an uphill climb(Auction Hill we call it)about 3 miles somewhere in the 4-5% grade. Halfway up the hill, I leaned into it and noticed the tach run up quickly, but no increase in speed!? Knew that wasn't good, but I knew my transmission guy is just down the other side of the hill, all I needed to do is get to the top and cost down. I made it, 20 MPH was top speed and gave it to my guy. Thinking the low fluid was the issue and not having the funds to do a total rebuild, I went with clean her up, replace the bad parts. After he got it done I took off thinking all was right with the world...until the next day, pulling the same grade. You guessed it, same issue, 20MPH, barley made it to his shop. It was only effecting the FWD clutches, everything else REV, OD was good? This time it was apart on his bench for days trying to figure out what went wrong? One Saturday morning going out to the shop to work on another rig I'm sure, he was still puzzled by this issue and he looked again at the FWD clutch housing(if that's what it's called)and the light caught it right and he grabbed a light and inspected it closer...this is what he found.
Sorry for the long write up, but has anyone out here have one of these do this, he had never seen this before which is probably why he missed it the first time he replaced the clutches?
First PIC you can see the hairline crack down the collar, across the face and up to the teeth. Second PIC there is a hairline crack pretty much 360* around the collar...now I know where my pressure went!?
