Looking at a 96 model truck. Auto. When cold, transmission will not shift under power. Let off on throttle, it will upshift. After truck warms up good, trans shifts normal. Any suggestions of what this could be or what to look at before we make an offer on the truck?

It's not the truck in the signature

Does this happen in all gears or just 2-3? I had a similar problem with my 96 auto. It only happened in one shift point the 2-3 shift if I remeber correctly and after talking to Bill Kondoly (sp) he determined it was a seal in the transmission that had gone bad. Might give him a call and see if he can help you figure it out.

As mentioned, it could be a seal. But, remember that automatice don't shift into OD or lock up the TC until the trans temp sender sees a specific temp.

If you look in the owners manual it will tell you that it wont sift into 4th or o. d. until the sensor sees a certain temp in the transmission. I have a 95 and I usaly have to drive about 3 miles before it will shift. Also depends on outside temps. If it is really cold it will take a long time to warm up the trans fluid.

good luck Dave G.

The 2-3 shift is the one that is hanging. It is probably the seal as mentioned above. I'll do some more driving of it though and check out the 4th and O. D. shifting to be sure. thanks for the hints guys!
