I own 2 1996 3500 2wd. One has been bombed, and the other is a stock CA truck. I plan to leave it strock as I dont want to blow the trans yet. Anyway, truck runs great empty, but under what I would consider a light load (9,000#) it can not hold 65 mph. It FEELS LIKE it pulls harder up to a point as you apply throttle, then begins to fall off, and actually slow down. It will actually run slower with the cruise on (because it will just floor it) than to just hold part throttle.

Truck has 180,000 miles, 100% stock, Orginal Auto Trans, EGR system, and a HUGE cat. converter (never seen one of these, and my other 96 just has a straight pipe)

the archives seem to point out that the EGR should go, but sets a code on the computer. what about the cat?

What do you expect, it is from California, it must suck! :) HAHA...

Get rid of the EGR is the first step... second is burn anything that says california approved
