Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 96 CTD dies on hills or when power brake.

got a 96 dodge 2500 12valve runs good but takes some time to start, after its worm some times it will just die if its on an incline and need extra uuuhmfff press in the pedal and it dies... . if you take off fast it dies could this be a lift pump failing or maybe the p7100 going?

Definately check the fuel pressure as it could be low and not getting any fuel. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? That could be a worthy cause as well. I highly doubt anything is wrong with the P7100 as they are the most trouble free fuel injection pumps on the face of the earth, IMO. There is a slim chance your lift pump is going out, but fuel pressure will tell you that. I would change you fuel filter before you have the pressure checked to eliminate that as a cause and help you pin point a possible lift pump issue. Also, check to see if you fuel shut-off solenoid is operating properly, it could be shutting your fuel off while running and you may need a new one or a new solenoid relay. Another problem could be your overflow valve but again that will be determined from the pressure check.

Replace the supply and return fuel hoses. They degrade after a while and leak air. Another common problem is for the fuel heater to leak air. It can be removed pretty easy to test if that is the problem. The lift pump on a 12 valve is a pretty sturdy gadget and seldom fails.
