Ok ... mine just gave it up, the seat back is all the way back, won't adjust/detent to a forward position any more. I just checked out access to the underside, doesn't look good. Looks like you can't remove the drivers seat w/o pulling at least the center console along with it.

You done it? You had that problem?

Forrest;

Did you break the reclining mechanism or just the cable? I am pretty sure you have to pull the middle seat with the drivers. If you are repairing it you can take the cover off the seat back without removing the seat. The mechanism is in the back portion of the seat. If it is the cable it is not available from the dealer. Do search in the forums for seat recliner cable and you will find out how I fixed mine cheap.

Thanks Nigel.

I think the part that broke is in the seat bottom, not in the seat back. The lever on the seat back actuates the Chingadera just fine.

What happened is the seat back got "tilted" forward with someone climbing into the back seat. I went to "set" the position of the seat back, with the lever on the side of the seat bottom & it seemed to "hang", or was "stiff".

It moves freely now, but doesn't "indent" into different positions. I yanked the handle, lifted the skirt on the seat bottom ... nada, can't see in there enough. The seat bottom fabric is tucked under and is secured in place by the rails. No way to get to the fastners on the rails to just remove the seat bottom. :{

Forest,

The seats are super simple to take completly out of the truck. I do that whenever I'm doing any work inside that is difficult to get at.

The center console is held in place with four screws. The seat belts are kind of a nuisance but not too bad. Just lift it out of there. The seats are also held in place with four screws. There are a couple of plastic covers over the rear screws. A philips screw driver takes them off. If you have a power seat, then unplug it. Remove the four screws and lift it out of the truck.

If you have an air wrench it's really simple.

Fixed it. There's a "gear" in the seat mechanism. You can see it when you tilt the seat back forward. Mine had dried up grease around it.

WD40 didn't do it, but spray penetrating oil did. Just stuff a bunch of paper towels in from the under side, squirt the pi$$ out of it, let it soak ... walla.

wondering if my passenger seat not latching might be the same issue. Mine won't latch so it wants to fall forward under hard braking. any ideas?

Maybe. Move the lever throught it's range of motion & compare the "feel" & movement in the latch to the drivers side.

Look into the seat & see if you can see that "gear" looking chingadera.

Could be in the seat back, as were my problem was in the seat bottom.

Good luck.

Similar question: How remove center console covers ???

Not to highjack the thread, but I was fortunate enough to get complete set take-off seat covers, complete, even the center console. The seats covers were not hard to remove and replace, just needed hog rings and hog-ring plyers.

Here is my problem, I cannot figure out how to get the guts out of the center console so I can remove the vinyl cover and the cloth coving the lower part to replace them. I can see by the take-off covers they were stapled on in the area behind the plastic, so it appears that the plastic must come out somehow..... anyone know the trick?
