I found a 96 at what I think is a good price, under 7000. Here is the problem, it lets out a good puff on start up but also has some smoke all the time. The owner says it does not seem to be down on power, does not know if it consumes or how much it consumes betwen oil changes (just took on trade). It has 290k, 5 speed, dually club cab. What do you guys think, to buy or not to buy. Also I have a 93 engine can the injector pump be swapped and use that engine if needed?? Thanks for any help, Karl:)

Personally, I would consider what the going rate of the truck would be with about 150000 miles and not smoking. I would compare that to the cost of the truck as is, plus a new engine. Obviously a new engine would be a bonus.

If the cummins is typically tired at 350000 miles, the engine is pretty much done.

I think it would be an ok deal if each comparison is equal. You deserve a bonus (new engine) for the trouble.
