i just got a 96 5speed its got good power but doesnt smoke much so i dont think its getting full fuel. i changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer and took the fuel plate out n still low on smoke so i removed the afc and took it for a drive but still dont smoke as much as i think it should. the shutdown seloniod is getting full travel and i stretched the spring in the overflow valve to just over a half inch cause it was a little short. its got good boost and i can get the egt to 1000* post turbo but idk what fuel pressure is since i have no gauge yet it smokes some when i first hit the throttle before boost comes up but at full throttle its just a slite haze i also checked to make sure its getting full throtle so my questioin is how much should a stock 12v smoke with no fuel plate or afc? sorry for the long post just trying to giv as much info as possible. thanks

what do you mean no afc. to get it to smoke you would move the housing forward. if you took the fuel plate out on a 215 pump it should melt the turbo with no problem, and smoke like a freight train.

i mean i took the whole afc housing off and took it for a test drive to see if something with the afc wasnt working right and it ran the same as when i tried it with the housing moved forward. im trying to figure out if its getting all of the fuel it should be getting. i can peg the 35lb boost gauge and the egt is around 1000* post turbo. im going to build this into a pulling truck im not just going to drive around blowing smoke everywhere but i want to make sure its running right stock before i go buying all kinds of parts and still not having it run right

not much but I'm thinking it's low fuel pressure. either a weak lift pump or bad overflow valve. Ill find out when I get a fuel pressure gauge

First get a Torq Tek fuel snubber from Geno's and check your lift pressure.

Then set your wastegate to >35psi as that is the choke point for a HX35W.

Or get a bigger turbo and plan on doing some engine mod's like O-rings and head studs...

I would recommend also getting a Tork Tek overflow valve as the Bosch ones don't hold up that well.

i got a new overflow valve and fuel pressure gauge installed today and the fuel pressure is around 23lb at idle and about 7lb at wot. i think thats on the low side but maby not i also put in a new boost gauge and boost was just under 40lb at wot and the egt got to about 1100* post turbo witch i thing is pretty high. any suggestions

thats what i thought. so i guess the only thing left is to replace the lift pump. should i get a stock replacement or a fass/airdog. i heard the stock lift pump can flow alot of fuel but how much fuel? i dont want it to be the limiting factor on power. this is going to be a pulling truck and im planing on a min of 700hp

Normal fuel transfer/lift pump pressure specifications are 17 - 22 psi at idle and of 25 - 35 psi at 2500 rpm (no load). Is your WOT pressure while driving or free revving?

For 700HP your going to need quite a few fuel system upgrades, not just a lift pump. You'll also want 50+psi.
