Archived 96 Runs for 5 minutes/Blow fuse 9

I have a 96 RAM 2500 4X4, 5 speed with 343000 miles. While driving home yesterday it just quit running and I was towed home. The first thing I checked was fuse 9 which had blown. I replaced the fuse, started the pickup and it ran for about 5 minutes before it blew the fuse again. I noticed the voltmeter was discharging instead of charging before it quit. I have checked all the relays and they appear to be good. Could the fuel shutdown solenoid be stuck in the high-amperage position after state causing a drain on the voltmeter and the fuse to blow? Can the fuel shutdown solenoid be taken apart cleaned and put back together? Thanks for any help, I need to get my truck back on the road.

It seems fuse 9 supplies power to several relays and the fuel shut off solenoid.



Try this test; unplug connector going to solenoid then push the rod up and have some start the truck. Let it run for five minutes or more let rod come down. See if fuse 9 has blown. If it is not blown then the hold up coil is pulling to much juice.



Fuse 9 does not supply power to fuel shut off solenoid relay or the pull up coil to the fuel shut off solenoid.



Looking at FSM for a 96 Fuse 9 supplies power to these relays: Intake heater relays, fuel heater relay. Looks like it also supplies,AC compressor relay, trans relay,automatic shut down relay. Look for F18 20 light green/black wire.

I'm guessing it's the grid intake heater relay. That thing really pulls some juice! ")

Looking at a few of the relay connectors and electrical diagrams F18 supplies power to coil side(thru ignition switch in run position) of the relay the PCM supplies the ground. Between the igniton switch and the PCM this activates (turns on) the relay allowing power go to a component or the PCM.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who replied. So far I've found some bare wires to the fuel pre-heater and one of the wire bundles. I'm also waiting on parts to the vacuum pump. I'll give an update when I get everything put back together.
