Hello im new here I have a 96 ex cab dually with an auto stock besides stright piped and im looking to see what it would take for me to hang with my buddie that has an 01 six speed ho with the edge comp 5 inch exhaust and K/N Thanks I have been reading the post for about 6 weeks now and just subscribed great website

Go to TST website you should find something there to help you. I got a TST #12 for my 97 and it is only suppose to be 230hp and 605 torque but don't let the numbers fool you my list of duramax and powerstroke wins is adding up. And if you want more you can go to a #10 I think it is which is something like 330hp 780 torque. I have a 5-speed so the numbers for your truck will be different I mean the plate numbers like 10 12 etc... Remember torque wins races.

what hp would he be at do you think he trys to tell me that he is over 400 at the wheels with just them bombs and i dont beilve he is I could be wrong though I have been plate less one time and ran him to see how it was and from a dead stop he would out run me pretty good about 2 truck lenghts but when we went from 60 with converter locked up we were side by side till 90 thats all mine will do then the govener cuts it back

Be forewarned, you will be frying your transmission in no time when you start bombing. Look at my signature for my upgrades. They really perked things up. There is still much more power to be had but that will have to wait until I get my transmission upgraded. It will shudder under full load now. The first thing you should do is get gauges (pyrometer & transmission temp minimum. Boost is also nice). Next upgrade the air filter. Then transmission. Then bomb. You can change the order of the last two if you want, I did. These guys can answer all of your queustions http://www.piersdiesel.com/index.htm . It all comes down to $$$$.

I have gauges so the next thing should be the trans I have only 6,000 on a stock rebuilt trans I pull anywere from 13,000 to 20,000 almost every day. My buddies truck i was talking about is a sharp truck full front replacement bumper western hauler be bed single cab silver dual 6 inch stacks

Just guessing here...

Your buddies stock HO should do about 215 - 230 to the wheels. Adding just a Comp would add 120 HP if you get all it says it does. That is pretty good power but the 400 would be at the crank not to the wheels.

Your 96 would do around 180 to the wheels. A good plate (#10 or #4) and maybe some injector (215s or 370s) to get you the fuel, Governor Spring Kit to match or exceed his RPM range, a little timing advance to help things run better, and some AT work to get the power to the ground.

With our trucks it is harder for an auto to match a manual power for power cost wise. If you had a 5sp in your 96, just a plate would match a comp box for about have to cost. In both cases a little more air (turbo houseing or turbo) should be considered.

Since you just had the transmission done look into a t/c and vb?

Guys, what do you think??????????????????

Thanks for the help should he be seeing pretty high egts with the comp he says he has never seen over 1100 pre turbo and he is always on the floor with it even towing

See my signature, mine is a mild upgrade compared to a lot of the guys on here, but it has decent power, just dusted a powerpuke this past weekend and really enjoy dusting ricers with a big cloud of diesel smoke:--) at stop lights. You will notice your biggest power gain IMHO when you upgrade your tourque converter and valve body.

If you look at my sig you'll see what I've done so far. I do have triple gages on the pillar. I'm saving for a transmission upgrade at this time.

If I remember correctly, Torque this is making somewhere over 400 hp and Tim Taylor is making even somewhere over 450 hp. After riding in their trucks :--) I'm really not that optimistic about keeping up with them, much less beating them in a drag race.

Unless of course someone wants to send me a bunch of

money  :D

Did you rebuild the trani at the same time you added the converter and valve body?

I am at the point that I would like to change my converter and valve body but I hesitate to do so if I'm going to end up rebuilding the trani real soon.

I've got 91k on the stock trani and the #10 plate has only been in awhile. I assume that the trani is going to start acting up sooner than later so I thought I might do everything at the same time. Of course the big problem is $.

Just to give you a reference point: I have a 2001 with the ETH, or High Output motor. I have a set of DD stage 3 injectors, bone stock HX40 turbo and the drag version of the Comp box. I have dynoed my truck twice. Once with the Edge EZ box (before the Comp came out) and once with the Comp.

My results were:

Edge EZ box on max setting: 386 HP / 757 #'s torque

Edge drag comp (on 5x5 setting): 439 HP / 826 #'s torque. I actually dynoed with the comp turned completely off and got 345 HP, and then turned it on 5x5 and got the 439. So the drag Comp on my truck made ~95 HP by itself.

So, if your buddy has the stock nozzles, even if he has the drag Comp, even on 5x5, the best he is likely to see at the wheels is around 325 HP. Especially if he is running the stock turbo as well.

If he is only seeing 1100 degrees max with his comp I have to believe that someone doesn't have the pump wire hooked up. Especially with the stock Turbo on a 2001.

He does have the pump wire hooked up he even tows on the highest setting and he told me that he has only seen 1100 he welded in his temperture prob would that have anything to do with it
