Hey guys I need your expert advice. I currently have a 99 3500 QC CTD 4x4 with 64,000 miles and the five speed. It is a great tuck, but I would like to get into a HO six speed. I found a 2002 3500 QC HO six speed that is beautiful;) fully loaded every option. The Sticker on it was $42,000 an it has about $5,000 in extras. There is only one problem. It had 100,000 miles put on it in six months hauling campers and trailers cross country. The seller told me everything is mechanically sound, but is that to many miles on it to pay $28,500. If it is what would be a reasonable offer. I am e-mailing back and forth with the seller trying to reach an agreement on the price. I have only seen pics of the truck and wont be driving 1000 miles to pick it up unless it is a good deal for me.

Thanks for any info

Good truck to pay cash for, but not a good truck to have a 30,000 dollar loan on. You'd never be able to sell it for what you owe.

Not only that, but he's out of his mind asking 30k for 100000 miles.

Maybe 20-22k.

You should be able to buy a new 2002 3500 4x4 ETH/DEE for $32,000, (their are 3 at the dealer where I just bought my truck) so he is only taking a $3500 depreciation for 100K miles of use. I know you said he added $5K in extras but that does nothing for you in resale, unless they are important to the buyer. I just 4 weeks ago paid $28,500 for my new truck it listed for $36,000 sticker. I would want to see the service records. If it checked out and was not abused then it would be a good investment for $22 - 23K. JMHO

That is not alot of miles on the engine, but alot of miles on the rest of the truck. I would want to know that the front end had been gone through, that everyting had been serviced on the severe duty schedule and I would want an out of some type. . I would go look for a truck at a local dealer. . if you can afford a little more $$ you could get a brand new one.

I once looked at a Ford that was the same as the Dodge you looked at. The front end needed replacing, the brakes needed replacing, the drivers seat was shot, etc. Basically the truck had what is normally a life time of wear on it in a year... . I passed.

From what I hear you can get a brand new one for between 27 and 32. I wouldnt even consider this truck. My friend just got a 01 3500 with 75k for $23. He was tickled pink. The 5 in aftermarket only is important if in reality you would add the same things. Other than that I wouldnt even figure em in. For me It would be a lift kit and bigger tires. I would pay a little more for a truck like that. Only problem is at 100k that transmission is not going to be loving life after working its balls off. Figure in a transmission in the next 20 to 50. I think dcs life expectancy on the transmission is 150 not including hotshotting.

Ditto, price seems high. If you could get the price more reasonable, and you like the truck. .

One thing to consider is that those miles appear to be highway miles, which are alot different than city miles (low brake use, not too many cold starts, etc. ).

Also, people that use their trucks for their business may tend to be less abusive to them as well. POSSIBLY.

Just another angle to consider.

I know mine has somewhere around 80k, and its just loosening up. Shifts great now compared to when it was new, brakes are fine, steering is just as cra*py as day one, no worse, etc.
