I've searched all over the place and have not found my answer...

I have a California 97 12valve with EGR. Contemplating a #8 fuel plate for modest power increase that is not going to trash my transmission. But I look at the fine print on a couple of sites that have fuel plates and they say "the California 96 -98 manual and automatic are both EGR engines ( 180hp/420ft-lb ) may not be upgraded to 230/605. "

"Does may not be upgraded" mean it will not work with EGR, or does it mean forbidden because of California law, or a combination of the two?

There are two issues with uprating the 180 HP egr equipped engine. First, emissions regulations may be a problem. Second, the egr air intake horn is necked down to about 1” diameter in the vicinity of the egr valve. People have milled out the restriction and welded a plate on the bottom of the horn, or deleted the egr intake and system, substituting the standard horn. The former is possibly legal, the latter technically illegal. If you leave the egr intact, the TST #8 is the “strongest” uprate plate that will work with any efficiency and some moderate level of egt control. You will still get some smoke due to the restricted air supply.

Any idea if a 95 (49 state) Intake Horn would work as a replacement for my California intake horn? I am willing to take my chances with California.
