Engine & transmission in at once?

I am posting this for a friend. His father has a 97 2500 4x4 360gas extended cab, short bed(yes, short bed)with the nv4500 behind it. What would it take to convert the truck to a VE pump cummins, we have a whole wrecked 92 5-speed 4x4 cummins for the swap.

I am not asking from an electronics standpoint,we wont even use one wire cause it already has a manual cable shut-off :D We just need to know if the 12v will bolt up to the gas' nv4500, is the input shaft the same? Motor mounts, will they work form the 92? We have a bellhousing adapter from 96 12v that we will use, cause from my understanding that the 1st gen adapter is different from the 94 up one.

Also I've read somewhere that the frames are different from a 360 to a diesel even in 2500 applications, any truth to this?

All help will be greatly appreciated!

Mikey

Heavy 2500

Check the GVW on the door jam

The Cummins 2500 is rated at 8800#s, commonly called the heavy 3/4, which is basically a 3500 with a Dana 70 single wheel rear-end.

I think the gas 2500 GVW is around 6500-6700#s.

If so the frames are deferent.

I dont think he is going for serious power with this one. Just a nice daily driver with POD's and a super B turbo, this is what is already installed on the VE engine.

You guys know about fitting up of the NV4500 from behind the gasser? Or should he just put in the GETRAG, because it still is a good transmission.

bellhousing and a different input shaft maybe. look at my gm to dodge 4500 post ang call the transmission shop i listed. they will tell you exactly what parts youll need and thier prices are great.

You will need to change bell houseing and bell houseing adapter and the imput shaft of the nv4500 as well as the out put shaft , so some say , it depends on how heavy you are with the go pedal , worst case senario change the rear out put shaft and a gen 2 manual t-case
