What should I be looking for on a 97 3500 SLT 5spd CC with 222000 miles?I know to look for KDP but how to look for it?Any other things to look for that may be hotspots? It's at a used dealer and they are asking 9000. 00. Does this seem reasonable? Thanks for any help. YJ

What kind a condition is it in?

If the paint and interior look good and it hasn't been wrecked I'd say $9000 is a pretty good deal. Although I only have 130,000 on mine I wouldn't sell it for less than $18k, but then again, it isn't for sale.

At 222k I'd look at the brakes, clutch slippage, fuel lines, fuel gauge, and track bar if it is a 4X4. See if there are any records of 5th gear work, or any maintenance records at all. Don't forget the standard stuff, color of oil, color of coolant, etc. How does it drive?

Good luck

re:3500

It started and runs smoothly. I'm going to take it on a long test drive Monday. The body is in very good shape and I could see no sign of outrite abuse. I'll know more after tomorrow I just kind of wanted a list of possible trouble spots to lok for. thanks. YJ

Check the bed for evidence of heavy towing, tow hitch, etc if the truck was a hotshot vehicle.

This is not bad if it was a one owner but if it was a company truck, it may not have been well cared for.

I have a 96 3500 5 spd and here's what I have had problems with in 145K

Fuel guage / module non functional

Throttle cable

Steering wheel leather

Fuel Shutdown solenoid

Over active thermostat

Batteries

Front rotor / hubs (these are about $200 each so if these are worn, it's a price negotiating item)

paint failure

shocks

headlight switch recall

re:3500

After driving the 3500 and being impressed w/ the ride and performance of the truck I decided to take a chance on it and buy it. Clutch felt strong and tight, trans shifted smoothly into all gears and the truck accelerated quickly as I ran it thru the gears. Body in good shape, interior clean&not worn. Just felt good about it(wanted it badly). Now have my 12 valve to go with what has become the wives 24 valve. Any one in the eastern Okla, west Ark. area tat can help us w/ the KDP fix(our ag teacher has a 96) get in touch thanks,YJ
