I am trying to solve a problem with a 97 dually concerning air conditioning. Does anyone have any experience with their AC.

I have replaced EVERYTHING except the evaporator. I have extreme high pressure that is cycling the compressor off and on as the high side reaches 480 psi.

Cool air reaches only about 60 degrees at the vents. Air across the evaporator is adequate.

Any comment would be appreciated.

I just returned from a 4000 mile trip with the same problem and symptoms. The A/C compressor on mine had failed and filled everything with metal shavings, inturn plugging the new valves and equipment causing the high pressure - low cooling. In the end I replaced everything and had a shop flush the system for 2 hours to get all the debris out. Now everything is back to normal.

Thanks dhacker.

I should have added that the original compressor burst the case when the original high pressure switch failed.

There is no blockage in the system. Each component is new with the exception of the evaporator and it was blown out with compressed air and is (and was) open.

I have followed all the logic to no conclusion. There is nothing else that cycles the compressor other than the low and high pressure switch that I know of.

I am going to install a much larger orifice tube and see if that will lower the output air temp and keep the liquid side from going so high.
