The Piers Ford / Cummins!!!

4bt to chevy trans adapter plate??

i have a question for everyone. i am taking some measurements before i pull the powerjoke out of my truck. is it going to be required for me to move my transmission back any? i do not want to run electric fans. i can cut the firewall and patch it back if that is an option. just trying to get a feel for what everybody else has done. pics would be nice also.

the measurement that i got was from the rear of the cummins to the front of the fan is about 36 1/2 ''.

thanks for the help.

There is a member here that goes by FordCummins. Not any affiliation, but has used their conversion kit in his '99 F-350. I've checked it out and got to ride in it when he came up to help me with the delivery valve installation on my truck. Looks great, and runs great. :D I don't think you'll regret it at all. Oo.

i am sure that i will not regert it when i get it done. i am just trying to figure out wheather i am going to pull the motor trany out all at once are leave the trany in. if i have to move the trany back anyway i might as well pull it all out at once. just would like to hear from someone who had put one in a 97 and find out for sure. thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the praise bmoeller. :D The truck puts a smile on my face everyday. If you want to run a mechanical fan (which is what I wanted as well) I had to move my transmission back about 1. 75-2".

Thats the fan clearance I ended up with, and I believe that the 97 has a shorter engine bay than the PSD. I have about 1. 5-2" of clearance between the motor and the firewall, so I could have come back farther if I needed to.

As for pulling the motor and trans out together. I pulled my motor out first, then dropped the trans out underneath. Working by myself I got the job done in about 5hrs. I definitely thought it was easier to pull them seperately, but its probably doable with them together with a bit of work. Post up progress as you work on it, its great to see another Ford gettin a decent motor :D

thanks for the pic fordcummins. i think that i am going to actually wait till i get the motor out and the cummins sitting in the engine bay to make any final decisions. i am getting excited about this project. i just hope that i do not run into to many problems that make me regret starting it. i will be taking lots of pics.

in doing the research for this project it seams that alot of people have done it they just don't want to put alot of pics out there of it. present company excluded, of coarse.
