I have a 1997 12-valve 2500 4x4 Reg. cab and while I love this truck, it needs a little more power. This is my plow truck and daily driver, so I want to keep it reliable and driveable. What would you suggest?
First off, do you have gauges? Pyrometer and transmission temp, minimum.
How much is "a little more power"? Having an auto transmission, if bone stock, will be the limiting factor.
I'd say a #10 plate, slid forward maybe . 020" from stock, and a 3k GSK. Adjust the boost elbow that should come with the plate for about 30# boost.
You can see all my fuel mods in my sig. Don't have the 3k GSK yet. It is fun.
I thought I'd stay with just a #10 plate, but since I needed to replace the turbo and injectors, I upgraded. A stock auto won't hold my power for long.
O-kay first thing you gotta do is rob a bank. I can not endorse this act it is just a suggestion. :-laf Then get some gauges and start w/ a fuel plate and go from there. While you are upgrading some of the little stuff you definetely need to start saving for a transmission. Ask around drive a truck w/ an upgraded transmission and make your decision that way. Me and BMoeller run a transmission from Dave Goerend and that is who I reccommend but there are other transmission companies. Have a good time and good luck.
