The stock mirror on my '97 Ram won't stay in position. The dealer said that it needs replacement at $375. As long as I need to replace them I was wondering if there was an after market upgrade for towing?

I have a 97 as well, and mine swings back towards me at 80mph or so... It sucks having to role down the window to put it back in place. I was thinking of putting some silicone in the thingy... OR some of those PSD mirrors... DONT SHOOT ME!!! I think the new mirrors look pretty cool. .

Also thinking of using some 4 post towing mirrors instead, but the replacement from DC is something like $400.

Let me know what you do. .

I have the old style mirrors on my 96 with one slightly damaged. I would love to find a 98 or newer owner that has added aftermarket mirrors to buy his stock mirrors. I think Andy P. did this with good success.

I checked with www.mopar4less.com and the new for 2000 DC towing mirrors are available. These are a very nice towing mirror BTW. They need an additional support bracked it believe. DC is not passing on any good deals with these as far as I could see.

The standard (98 and newer... power, heated) mirrors are about $150. If I have to replace with new I would definately put the newer black mirrors on instead of the older chrome. They bolt right up as I understand.

Does anyone have any recomendations for some of those four post mirrors (the old style towing mirrors?) I don't really want to put mirror extenders on, but I need something.

Does anyone know what the dealer cost is for aftermarket towing mirrors?

What I use to keep my mirrors from moving is steel fishing leader. It is sort of hard to explain but there is a small bracket that sticks out from the hood seam which I attach one end of the leader to. The other end of this leader is attached to the support arm of the extended mirror. Those that are interested I can email me for some pics. At speeds of 50mph on up these things don't move. Even wind gust from other vehicles whether I being passed or in the passing mode myself don't phase 'em...
