How does the fuel sender come off of the tank connection.

I've broken I thoink all of the safety hold on things and it relents still.

I gotta get the tank out to do my brake line.

TIA

On the plug end (with the wires) there is a red clip that pulls out of the side of the plug. It needs to pull out almost 3/8 of an inch. Don't try to pull the clip all the way out. Just far enough to remove the plug

Yep the red slider thingy has a tab on it which you grab onto and pull out, then pinch tab on the connector to release. It's usually a bugger. Helps to drop the tank a few inches for better access.

OK, you will need to try to lower the tank a few inches or pull the bed.

Lowering is best accomplished by removing the fill hose and vent hose. you can leave the fuel lines and obviously the wire harness connected. That should give you 4-5 inches at least.

Then you can either wiggle up between the frame and fender, or between the tank and drive shaft to see what you are fighting. Examine the latch and use a small flat blade screwdriver to help keep the latch open while you use both hands to wiggle the harness out. You may need to briskly whack the sides and top of the connection a few times with the handle of said screwdriver. Might try to squirt some brake clean or soapy water on the connection to help free it up a little.

NOTE - "Whack" is a hard impact than "Tap", but not as hard as Hit or Hammer. It's plastic, old and probably brittle.

Thanks. I tried it that way, but I'll have to try again.
I have the tank un bolted ready to replace the busted brake line. All waiting on this. :mad:
I have a pretty screwed up back so it limits my time under there quite a bit.
It requires a very contorted position... . at east for me.
Guess I'll medicate up & go at it again. :{

Edit, the fuel tank is held on by a few threads on both straps.

Can you drop the axle side strap? it'll give you a little more room to wiggle. Use a little guy to crawl in to the tight spot.

I dont have a spare little guy. :-laf

I'm the only one here that can do this.

Does anyone have a picture? I think my shop manual is in storage... . cant find it.

Weather turned to crap again. :mad: I might not get to this until next week. :{

Thanks.

In the picture with the wire harness actually connected, press towards the rear (wire side) to lift the lock tab and wiggle/pull apart. You may need to wedge a small flat blade screwdriver on the opposite side of where you are pressing to help hold it up. Sometimes pushing it in fully and then pulling back a few times helps release it.

It is entirely possible that your connection may have gotten hot enough at some point to melt and fuse the harness to the plug. I've seen it before.
