2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Alarm install

I borrowed my son's 98 and noticed the fuel guage went from "find a station now with audible" to 1/2 tank. This happened four or five times in a 5 mile distance. Any ideas what the problem is. I think I remember the sender in the tank being discussed in the TDR at some point? Thanks, Doc
 
Here's what to do... . if you know how many miles you can normally go on a tank, fill up, and when you get around the point where you would normally fill it up, that is the time to do it... that way it will not be full, and wont be a pain in the arse to get dropped. . I think the total replacement time was an hour or so... it is better with 2 people, but I like to do most of my maintenance on my own. PM me if you need any help, as this is all too familiar to me!

That's exactly how I did mine. I drove it till almost empty, using the odometer as a guide, then dropped only one end--the back end as I recall--and replaced the sending unit. Wasn't too hard. It would be easier with 2 people, and some guys prefer to lift the bed instead of drop the tank, but I couldn't do that due to a tool box.
 
I raised the left side of the box instead of dropping the tank.



There's always another way to do something:D
 
This, unfortunately, is a repair I also need to do. Just to make it worth my while I'm going to upgrade to a larger tank. I have never liked the stock polyethelene tank. I know it will never rust, it's the puncture resistance that bothers me.

Puncturing a pe tank should be next to impossible, I changed mine to a larger tank (metal), shot the pe tank from about 20 ft with a 22 rifle and no punctures, finally popped it with a 30-06 at 30 ft. the pe tanks are actually stronger, lighter, and safer than the steel ones
