Has any one ever adjusted the spring in the overflow valve on the injector pump? Mine is bypassing at 16psi on the gauge. It was set at 22psi in the beginning but the spring is starting to go away I think.

This has been beat to death already. Numerous posts on fixes, procedures, etc. Do a search and you will get tired reading all the posts. Good luck.

I put 0. 065 of shim stock in my "97" about a 120K miles ago. I bought SST shim stock, drilled the correct size hole then cut the shims round with a tin snip. Added shims till I got the pressure I wanted. Still working.

When the streatch fails read up on the one that is developed by a guy that hangs his hat here on the forums. TORK TEK, a new valve that is adjustable. check it out.

If your going to do the streatch go to . 550" max. just a smack (. 050") over 1/2" totalend to end.

I looked at the Tork Tek and found out that if you are running a FASS system or Air Dog they do not recommend using the adjustable over flow valve. They suggest a metered by pass they sell. I think I will shim for now and do some more research.

Thanks for the come back. :)

I stretched mine to . 5" and, with an underhood fuel pressure gauge, I keep a very close eye on it. Been looking into the Tork Tek, will be next on my "to do" list.

At least somebody has stepped up to the plate and is offering a solution to long lasting problem. I was contemplating a spring replacement way back when, wish now that I would have pursued.

You guys that have gone to the Tork Tek, what kind of performance, milage type of evaluation can you offer, or tell us about?

I just got my Tork Tek overflow valve and a gauge snubber. I put in the snubber and hooked up a gauge for testing, so I could see what I had before installing the OFV.

Gauge is actually an oil pressure gauge because I haven't ordered gauges yet. I installed the gauge with 1/4" hose per the Tork Tek instructions, rather than the 1/8" tube that came with the gauge. Actually, I first installed it with the 1/8 tube, and it bounced like a maniac!

Anyway, I'm getting ~50 psi at idle, ~40 on the road, and ~35 under load!!! My fleetguard fuel filter has less than ~10K mi, but I'll change it tomorrow, test again, then put in the OFV and see what I get.

What could be causing this? Oh, since the last time I changed the filter, I ran about 3 gal of WVO from my turkey fryer. Thus the filter may be the culprit... But if not???

thanks

kevin

edit: Other than an occasional hard start problem accompanied by a sound my Cummins-owning Navistar-mechanic buddy has never heard before, the truck runs great.

Many thanks to JoeG, who just saved me a big hassle! I emailed him to ask about my problem and he convinced me it was the OFV, not the return hose. Of course, he was right!

I read dozens of fuel pressure-related threads and found no mention that the OFV can cause excessive fuel pressure as well as the seemingly more common low FP.

So, if your fuel pressure is high, check your overflow valve!

search words: high fuel pressure

see ya
