Been having an erratic tach with all problems that brings for a short time. Researched here and found advice to clean the 3 wire connection a front of engine where the hall's effect sensor wires connect with the larger wiring harness going to PCM as well as the ground connection on top of intake manifold.

Looked at it today after work and have a question. How does that connector come apart? I have tried sqeezing the sides as well as gentle prying on the tab on top. I don't want to break it so I haven't tried to force anything. I never had to take it apart years ago when I fixed the KDP.

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, it just pulls apart.

All [that I've seen] of these type of connectors have some sort of locking tab on them that is released by squeezing the sides, prying out a tab, etc. If this one just pushes together what keeps the engine vibration from eventually loosening it? I'd hate to pull it apart and found that I'd broken it. If the concensus is that it just pulls apart than pull it apart I will.

Thanks

Push down on the little tab that is about a 1/4 inch wide. It is a simple lock. Are you saying your tach, speedo, A/C and alternator are working intermittantly? Mine is, trying to decide if I want to spend $150 on a new sensor.

Thanks. I see the little tab, will be trying it.

My tach is working MOST of the time normally but every so often will bounce around. When it does my transmission unlocks and drops out of OD with the resultant huge increase in RPMs. Hasn't done it on the highway just secondary roads. Nothing else seems to drop out because it is so momentary.

Thanks

'98 must be different than my '96. No locking tab on mine. Simply pulls apart.

It is. If you look on Geno's Garage site you'll see. Your's should be round and does look as if it will just pull apart. The '97 & '98 are more oval shaped and do have a little locking tab. Why they had to change and make it a liitle more difficult who knows.
