i just bought a 98 2500 club cab 24 valve 4x4 auto. it has 188k and runs great. my problem is when it is in drive and im at a stop it feels like it wants to keep going like the converter isnt unlocking. once you are moving it shift up and downshifts great, but every time you try to stop it keeps pulling even though its idling around 850 rpms. also while running if its in neutral and you put it into drive or reverse it jerks and almost stalls out. i think the tps (apps) is bad becasue i get the "dead pedal" quite often but could the voltage be off enough to make the torque converter stay locked or am i in deeper than i though. also i dont know if this is related or not but the speedo is definitelly way off. i'd say when im going about 70 it says im going 50. any ideas? the truck is completely stock and i picked it up for $3500. please help. thanks in advance!

The converter is bad, it has a locked sprag in it and no stall now which causes it to pull thru the brakes. If the TC was locked it would kill the engine.

The TC being bad is probably effecting the rest of the system but you won't know that until you fix it. The dead pedal could be APPS or even the IP gone bad.

i just dropped the truck off at a trans shop that ive delt with for years. the guy said it could be the torque converter or possible one of the valves stuck open in the vale body. i just hope its not the converter and the trans because thats gonna get expensive. ill find out tomorrow morning when the give me a call. also i adjusted the tps/apps with the help of this forum and no more dead pedal or check engine light or any codes for that matter. so at least one problem is resolved.

apparently all it was was the torque converter, but the retard i bought it from drove it for months like that which burnt out all the clutches in the transmission, so $1800 later, a new torque converter and rebuilt transmission, the truck is driving great.
