I picked up a 98, 2500, 12V, 4*4, engine driven hydrolic brakes, a couple months ago.

It pulled to the right when I test drove it but recently the problem has gotton a whole lot worse.

I had to do a red light stop from 60 mph and had to fight to keep the truck in my lane...

So far my mechanic buddy and I have:

Pulled the front wheels - the disks were down to about 38. 5 mm with even wear on all 4 sides.

The pads were nearly new with about 80% of the material left on all 4 pads.

We bled all 4 wheels quite a bit.

No real difference in braking - it pulls to the right mildly under light braking and violently during a hard stop.

My mechanic wants to rebuild the front calipers next but he wanted me to do a post first.

He is a TDR guy also and wanted to see what yawl think the next step should be?

Thanx!

Brakes Fixed!

I pulled the 40 amp ABS fuse and now my truck stops straight as an arrow!

I have a bright BRAKE and ABS lights on my panel but nothing a couple of strips of electrical tape won't hide.

Any danger in running with ABS disabled?

Any body know how to trouble shoot it?

I never even wanted it...

Are the *back* brakes adjusted right? Are the rear brake cylinders for the 3/4 ton or the 1 ton? Those were the issues with mine. Changing to the 1 ton cylinders and watching the adjustment made a huge difference.

I dunno how that would (or even could) affect the ABS. I only have rear ABS on mine.

I can verify the "Are the *back* brakes adjusted right?"

You might also want to consider having the calipers rebuilt, as it will, in all probability, make the front pads wear longer.

Matt, you mentioned the 1 ton rear cylinders, I put those on mine recently and noticed that the rear locks up under a panic stop now. Does your truck lock up the rears now?

I thought that the ABS on the rear would prevent this, or maybe I've got a problem with the proportioning valve.

You can see my other post "Brakes that keep breaking" on this forum, it tells what I've done so far to try and fix the problem with the brakes.

Rear Wheel Lockup

I've never locked up the rears on mine, even in a panic stop. (Maybe I've never had that much panic. );)

The proportioning valve sounds like a good place to look, at least to me. It also sounds like the only thing you haven't replaced.

I wish I could bne more helpful.
