My son-in-law's truck is leaking down and will not restart without cycling the lift pump. He has a leak in the top of the Fuel Filter where the wires to the fuel heater enter the fuel filter top/mount. Does anyone know the part # for this part so we can order it. If you have any sources for this also would be appreciated if other than the Cummins parts house. I have been after him for a long time to install a fuel guage so we could monitor the pressure because I am not so sure he isn't having lift pump issues also. Any responses are certainly appreciated.

Very common place for these things to start leaking. Mine had that leak a few years ago. As a temporary fix I goobed it with RTV, this held for about a year and was still holding tight when I removed the old housing. The parts for that fuel filter housing are no longer made, both dodge and cummins sell an expensive kit to upgrade to the 2000+ style fuel filter canister. Changing to an FASS or Airdog is the route many people take. I bought a 2000+ style filter canister from a fellow TDR member that had removed his, along with the lines to and from the canister. It all bolted right in, I had to make a couple wire harnesses for the WIF sensor and Heater because the plugs are different. Works great and cost a lot less than what the OEMs want for their kit.

Thanks for the info I guess I will have to start searching for a 2000 fuel filter setup then. If anyone has one feel free to chime in... ...

Update, the truck has sat for about 4 months and when he parked it the truck would not restart so he towed it home and let it sit. He did goop up the wires coming out of the top of the filter and it has sat and set up really good. I went over this morning and we put in two fresh batteries. I bumped the starter about fifteen times to run the lift pump and purge the air. Well I cracked the banjo bolt on the inlet to the injector pump then on to #1,3 and 4 injectors. After bleeding the air from the injector lines the truck seemed to have some life in it. After several more cranks it fired and after a few seconds of running rough it smothed out and has no more problems. I do believe that he will eventually need to replace the factory junk with something a lot more substantial (FASS) which I have strongly suggested to him. I got one offere of a 98. 5 fuel filter assyembly but for now I think we are fine.

Thanks all for your help.
