2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 98.5 2500 no 12v power

I replaced the instrument cluster with another used one, everything worked except the tach. I removed the cluster and cleaned electrical contacts on the back and also the bus connector near the brake pedal. Both batteries were disconnected while doing this.
After reassembly the only power is to the dome light and the four-way flasher (front lamps only). There is no power to anything else, no start, no radio, no heater fan...nothing. Anyone have any ideas where to check or what to replace if needed?

Is it possible that you didn't re-connect one of the wires to the battery? If not the problem, I would start with checking fuses in the PDC (Power Distribution Panel under hood) and Junction Block (in dash by driver side door). It sounds like you lost a major power source.

Did you do any other work when you replaced the instrument cluster?

I checked all the fuses. Remember the dome light still works and the four way flasher works the front lights. All battery connections were removed and cleaned then reassembled.
I sent the PCM in to have it reflashed. No other electrical work was done. I am going to replace the turn signal/multi switch tomorrow.

Is the PCM out of it? When and why was it removed?

If everything was fine till you removed the batteries, it almost certainly is related to that. While anything is possible, it’s very unlikely it’s the PCM or the multifunction switch.

The reason the multi function switch is being replaced is because of head light and signal issues. I agree there shouldn't be any correlation bet stand my problem. I only had a partial instrument cluster with some idiot lights not working and some gauges also.
I just bought the truck from my neighbor who's husband (also my friend and fellow veteran) committed suicide. It does have sentimental value to me. I have the 2005 truck also.
Had to chuckle because you signature is the same one I used in my email......right on!
