Well this is the second time in two years on a stock 3500. I am seriously looking at swapping the cam out and adding a mechanical lift pump. I was wondering how many folks have done this and what a ballpark figure for cost would be. The shop here in town wanted 3500 for a reman VP and to replace the lift pump. I think that is way too high. I have heard that the VP44 is not very difficult to change, has anyone done it at home?

Thats way too much!!!! A qualtiy rebuilt VP will be under $1100 and the labor will book at around 4 hours. Normally you can have on installed for around $250. The install itself is very straightforward and should take you around 4 hours doing it yourself..... I would be happy to help walk you through and install if you want so feel free to call.
