I am considering installing a set of 988 springs on my '05 4wd 4 door. I was also wanting to level the truck up at the same time. Will the springs do it alone or would a leveling kit also be in order? Thanks, Johnny

You need the right length springs to do it. A VR set should give you the needed lift and better ride. 988 springs are too generic to even identify and you want spring lift not the pucks for best results.

Thanks for the reply. I have a new set i bought a couple of years ago from the Dodge place and never got around to putting them in.

There was a thread here years ago where we had a listing of what the part numbers where for each configuration from the factory. I can't seem to find it, but I will keep looking.

My 05 2500 with the Cummins had a rake to it which got even worse when I put the 8 foot Fisher plow on it. I wanted to do something to level it out and give the front end more support when using the plow. The engine itself weighs 1000 lbs. which I'm sure contributes to wearing out the front springs. I installed a set of Tuftruck TTC-1217 front coils from SD truck springs that worked excellent. They raised my truck about 2.5 to 3 inches which leveled it out, and it doesn't sag at all when I put the plow on. The ride is naturally stiffer than before, but I was looking more for utility than a cushy ride. While I was at it, I also rebuilt everything on the front end including Carli ball joints and control arms, longer Maax sway bar links, wheel bearings , HD greasable wheel joints from Torque King, and also got rid of the Y type steering. Went to the 2008 and up pitman arm and steering setup. Set it up with 4 degrees of caster and 0 total toe, and it handles like a dream, I'm very happy with it. Finally got my airbags done last week which makes me feel a lot better also.

I put a set of 988 springs in my 3rd gen when I went to a 9ft v plow. If I remember correctly it raised the front about1 to 1-1/2 inches. It did hold the plow much better, but at a sacrifice of some ride quality.

I put 988's on my 07.5 many years ago and don't remember it raising the front much. Maybe an inch.

That sounds about right. My '07 with the 988's sits approx an inch higher than the '04.5 which has I think 985's in the front if I remember correctly.

OK, i think I found the old thread with the part #'s

www.turbodieselregister.com/threads...ont-coil-spring-numbers?p=2106676#post2106676

I still can't find it, but there was one more thread here years ago that had a listing of what springs came with what combos. I believe that thread detailed that all of the 2500 and 3500 diesel plow prep trucks came with the 988's and the others had some combo of anything from the 985's to 988's depending on configuration. I'll keep digging until I find that thread.

are the part number stamped on the coils some where? i have a few sets of coils, one set is visibly thinner and less coils than the others, but stand taller.

well i went and looked at mine and i can't find any numbers. perhaps someone here can shed some light.
