Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 99; 24 v; auto Dash gauges intermittent and erratic

My son's 1999 Dodge CTD, auto, 90k miles and completely stock has the dash gauges, odometer, speedometer going erratic. Truck runs fine.......what is the problem???

I could be off but I would think it's the Speed sensor in the rear diff, whacky but mine started acting up and the speedo went out (I think the tack too??) replaced the sensor in the diff and all went fine from there. If I recall correctly it's held in with one screw and is on top of the diff center - it reads the tone ring on the ring gear. Wasn't too expensive I think it was like $30 or so, been years since I replaced mine,
