My sister has a 1999 24 valve five speed that cranks but won't start. There are no codes when they scanned it and they have fuel at the injectors. She has a fass pump. Any ideas? Thanks

Is the starter turning the engine over at a normal rate?
Check the banjo bolt at the injection pump on the supply side, if its loose the pump will suck air.

I sent her this info and she texted back that she wanted me to call her 'cause it was too much to message me. It's too late to call them right now so I'll find out in the morning.

My sister said that they were able to get it running but idling badly and it threw a code that meant the throttle position sensor was bad. So they are going to replace that and see what happens.

I'm sure your aware of this, but make sure they get one through geno's or somewhere similar where you can buy just the apps sensor. The dealership will only sell the entire belle crank assembly which is several hundred dollars.

I've never heard of a TPS causing rough or "bad" idle and a hard start issue. Surging and no throttle response yeah.

Is she sure that is what the code was?

JR thanks for the tip, I was not aware but fortunately they had called Geno's already. Sticks, I'll let them know. My thought was that if the throttle position sensor was bad that it should start and idle but not rev up. Would that be correct? I'll have them double check the code. Thanks guys.

Apps usally wont cause that, air the fuel system will and how much fuel is the lift pump putting, if it is the lift pump and its the OE on the block replace with a in tank or relocate it.

Actually if the OE block pump is bad, replace it and add the in thank pump. If they already did the stealership in-tank conversion, put the block pump back on. The two work great in tandem, but suck as individuals.

Even relocating the block mount pump to the frame by the tank does not seem to help their longevity, I went through 4 of them there before I installed a FASS back in '05.

She is on her second injection pump. Before that, they had replaced the block lift pump and added a gauge/idiot light for fuel pressure. When the injection pump failed, she replaced the injection pump and also added a fass pump.

Don't know yet, she has to save up to get the throttle sensor and then try it. Hopefully that will work since its cheaper than the injection pump
