yesterday, my 99 had a hard time starting. Cranked over 8-10 times, would not start, FP guage showed no pressure, waited 30 seconds, FP guage still showed nothing, but truck started as normal. Now the "Check Engine" light is on. I've had the lift pump changed 2 times so far, truck has 86,000 on it with no mods. now, sometimes the pump will cycle and sometimes it won't. Will the lift pump set a code and make the light come on? My truck won't do the key sequence thing for the codes for me to check,:{

Thanks Alan, just got back from the dealer. Said the pump was okay, 8 psi under load, but that the code was for the Crankshaft position sensor. Going by this afternoon and picking one up from cummins as i'm sure it will be cheaper than the 60. 00 that the dealership wanted.

Seems like you need a new gauge did you have a mechanical or electric with senders for each ? Senders last longer when mounted off the eng . 8psi seems low for load was this WOT or just on a roller ? with new gauge I would keep a watch on the Psi and first time it slipped below 8 I would be back to the dealer for a new pump before you are on your own dime. Ron in Louisville KY PS the tech when I had pump replaced stated should not go under 10 anytime ,Any one got the Official PSi from DC on paper. ?

haven't seen under 10 yet. :confused: :confused: :confused: :D

I've got a mechanical guage, post filter. I'm keeping an eye on the guage as i feel for sure that the lift pump will give up before the warranty is out. One way or another that is. One question. If the truck has been running and then shut off, if i bump the starter should the pump cycle for the 20-30 seconds immediatly after shuting the truck off? Got the sensor from cummins last night for 37. 00 and some change. took about 45 minutes to put it on. Not a bad change out at all. thanks for the help guys!
