My friends 99 2500 4wd auto cummins needs the differential oil changed front and rear. The dealer wants $200 to do both, told him I would order the fluid (Mobil Syn) and do mine also at the same time.

Just curious about the need for gaskets, or do you just some RTV silicon? What's the # of quarts also?

My 03 has re-usable gaskets so I'm cool.

Thanks in advance... .

my 99 requires the RTV sealant. when i changed mine, i think i put like 4. 5 quarts in the rear and about 3. 5 or 4 in the front. i took the pans off and let it drain for a few hours and then put the pans back on with the RTV, let it sit overnight and then fill it with oil, worked great for me.

Diff Change

Also, If you put a floor jack under on side of the axle you can drain the fluid out of the ends of the axles. That way you can remove MOST all of the dirty oil. Upon re-filling, fill through the fill hole & replace plug hand tight & jack up each axle end again & you can add yet more oil assuring you get the axles completely full.

I did it that way at the direction of a fellow TDR member (Can't remember his name) and it worked great FWIW.
