OUR 99 dodge 3500 lift pump went out. I replaced it ,turning the key on the new pump worked a couple of times then quit . What turns the power on and off to this pump

JLJ,

Did you "bump" the starter or just turn on the ignition? Can you check the pigtail that came with the new pump with an Ohm meter?

The power is provided from the ECM.

Welcome to the TDR! Mike

Power comes from the ECM. I put in a relay to run constant voltage to my pump. Didn't make it last any longer, but I wouldn't do it any other way now. Running a fuel pump out of an ECM makes me nervous having the ability of the pump to short something out and take out a computer.

what do you mean for "the new pump worked a couple of times then quit "?? you hear a buzzz noise for many seconds and then it stops?

tHE PUMP DID PUMP FUEL TO THE FILTER A COUPLE TIMES AND NOW IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE LIFT PUMP AT ALL. JLJ

ok, now when you bump the starter the pump does not run at all, exactly??

check fuse. check connection and check if you have electrical signal at the pump wiring with a tester(when you turn the key to on)

truck wont start?
