Have '99 3500 4x4 5spd. Current mods. PE COMP and BHAF, Auto Meter EGT and Boost guages, straight pipe. Was doing a little drag racing, all going well but when shifted from 4th to 5th engine died out and won't start back up, had to be pulled back home by a Ford, that was bad. Lift pump is getting fuel to filter canister, has new filter, think the VP44 may have crapped??????? I am a new TDR member, need your help guys, THANKS

Sounds like a VP44 problem, mine just went out on Monday. I was running the truck pretty hard with the Comp on high and it died when I lifted the throttle. You can check if it is by losening all but one injector line (hard to do the one behind the intake horn, so don't do that one) and see if you get fuel squirting everywhere. If you don't get fuel from all the injectors, the pump is toast. Good luck, are you under warranty still? I wasn't. I would recommend finding a non-dealer for repairs. Read my post in this forum "Truck died on way home"

Good luck,

Nate

rbolten...

How long have you had your PE Comp on your truck? Was this the first time that you had ever 'cranked up' the Comp box? Just curious, because the VP44's IF they are going to fail, usually fail right after the Comp box is installed.

Good luck & stay away from the stealer if you need a new VP44...

Sure sounds like your VP44 is toast. The 98 and 99's have a tendency to self destruct when a fueling box is installed. Fortunately, the newer ones seem to be doing much better.

I had one die on me in the same manner yours did. It was on a '99 truck with an auto, and I was on it pretty hard in 3rd, and then let off the throttle. The truck simply died, without any warning. So now you are probably wondering why it failed... Well, check out this link:

You're killin' me here Evan!

I haven't hooked up the VP44 pump wire connection on my Edge Comp yet... I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have just kept my DD TTPM instead. :(

Darn '98. 5s and '99s!

..... get that new VP44 ready for me Piers.

DEZLPWR

Had my PE COMP on truck 1200 miles, about 3 weeks. Have run it very hard on 5/5 at least 15 or 20 times, probably even more, before the VP44 failed.

will it fail with std ez box?

added a standard ez at #3 setting on a stock 99

a/t trans truck ran it someday

about 10 minutes for my brother

will the standard ez box ruin the pump?????

I think you are plenty safe running the EZ, I have never heard of an injection pump going out on a truck with an EZ that did not also have a dead lift pump. Do you have a fuel pressure guage? If you don't have one or don't check your fuel pressure regularly you are running the risk of cooking a VP44 regardless of mods.
