I have a 99 Ram with the infinity system and I am taking the old stereo (amp and sub) out of my 95 ram. The wiring harness hooks right up and i can can the head unit to turn on, but no sound out of the speakers. I was told that i need to power the amp somehow... . not sure how to do that.

Any help appreciated!

Well, you usually need a 'remote' switch for the amp. What it does, is keeps the amplifier turned off when your stereo is turned off. When I bought my boat a month ago, it had a mini toggle switch to turn the amp on and off. I have since re-wired the stereo, and put in an additional amp. So now, when the stereo is on, the amps have to be on, since nothing is running off the stereo head unit like was the case before.

I am not sure which wire would do this in the truck; usually they are blue with a white stripe, but that is on aftermarket stereos. If you need additional help, feel free to PM me, and I will try my best to help you out. Would you ever consider just replacing the factory head unit with something a little better? To effectively run an amplifier, you need something with at least 4 volts output going to the amp. Just keep this in mind, and that the factory stereo head unit does not accomplish this. Basically, you are shorting yourself out on good sounds!

It was a few years ago when I did this-

But I believe I used the wire for a power antenna to power the little speaker amp. If you search the archives you will find the info you need. It is simply a matter of attaching two wires.
