We have a 99 work truck with the 53 block that is stock that just started knocking. I really do not want to rebuild the 53 block. Question? We found a 24 valve engine with 14k out of a 650 Ford dlivery van. Can we swap the long block without problems.

Hello, not all 53 blocks have the notorious problems. I bought a beaten up 1999 dodge that had 400,000kms on it before I parted out the truck to convert my 1997 to a 5 spd manual.

However, enough has happened to 53 blocks to where most people would rather keep their hands off and throw them out or sell them.

Any 5. 9l can be swapped with little to no difference.

The swap would be easier if it's a '98. 5 to 2000 engine. 2001-02 engines have different crank & cam sensor setup and physically different location which would make it a little trickier. Also MAP and IAT connectors are different with a different voltage range if I remember right.

It's correct not all 53 blocks have the defective casting, it was one out of 2-3 foundries that were making 53 blocks that misread the blueprints and left a key reinforcing rib out of the water jacket area.

Been out of town... . sorry for the delay.

OK, I am not a mechanic, we own a salvage business... . so I am not as knowledgable as most of you folks reading this tread.

What we plan to do is strip the Ford engine down to the long block, then strip the 99 engine an put all the parts on the Ford long block. Will the IAT amd MAP sensors swap from one engine block to the other?

I hate to drop this since the Ford engine has only 14 thousand miles.

Just so everyone knows the Ford engine is from a Ford 650 with a Cummins 24 valve engine.
