Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 99 wont shift out of first gear

My 99 4x4 will not shift out of first gear two days ago i was towing a trailer in the snow in 4x4 and the transmission went into limp mode I shut off let cool down everything seemed fine shifted good bla bla bla that night check gages light came on for the volts ?? it came back up to nomal i did not think anything of it the next day i let the thruck warm up put about 30 miles on it drove to work the truck sat for 5hours now it will not shift out of first gear ?? I hooked up my scan tool it showed a code for out put shaft sensor ? I pulled out the sensor cleaned it off put it back in still showed no out put shaft RPM ?? but know I can not get my scan tool to commincate with my truck can anyone help ??

My son has a '02 and his took forever to shift out of first, and never shifted out of second. He was about 300 miles away from me. I talked to a trans shop I have good relations with and they told me that over 90% of the time when they encounter that problem they change the governor pressure solinoid(sp). I told my son, he got one from a Dodge dealer $112 +/- replaced it himself and that fixed it. It is located on the valve body, you can see it when you remove the pan. I don't know if the transmission are close to the same but it sounds kinda of like the same problem
