2nd gens go to defrost by default,a vacuum leak anywhere in the system is all it takes. The actuator by the drivers rt foot is the easiest place to start. If you have vacuum there the actuator has failed.common leak problems are the plastic lines, melted disconnected,or the line at the cruise servo eaten by batt acid

I found that out the hard way when I replaced my evap on my 94, when I bolted the assembly to the firewall. The vacuum line fell in behind and was sandwiched between the assembly and firewall and crushed it. I had to pull the dash and assembly all over again, I wont make that mistake a second time.

So did I. But I re-routed the vacuum line via a driver's side firewall thru-port instead of a second remove/reinstall. Much harder now to pinch it a second time.

No air at defrost either maybe it's plugged buy a mouse nest?

My '94 was built late in '93 according to the door sticker..always remember that truck for two reasons...

(1) 1st Cummins Ram that I owned

(2) it had a blue interior...

Most year models do have a build date of the year before. New models normally come out around Labor Day of the year before. The 1994's came out in '93, '95's came out in '94, etc.

I wondered if that was what was behind the 93.5...

My 06 was built in 11/05..

I've seen DTNA push it ahead almost a full year on the model year of a truck..

Used to be September for the model year change but that seems to have to gone out of the window with some manufacturers...

Does anybody have a vacuum diagram

As I recall there was aton of good press before the 2nd gen launched in the summer of 93.I had a friend who was a trainer for Dodge,he gave me a enough tech info I ordered one in June 93.The option pkgs I wanted were not available.By november I told them to build it w/out the ones not ready yet and it was built in dec. The best part was the 93 built 94's did not have to have the Cat.
