Found the only bad thing about my '03 - license plates. Went to the county to pay the taxes & fees yesterday and almost had to call the paramedics. I don't mind paying my fair share but my pockets are only so deep. At least I'm far enough away from Denver that I'm not contributing to the Bronco's new stadium. Now that I have paid for the plates, when I'm behind the wheel I don't just feel like I'm King of the Road, I AM King of the Road. I gotta get back to Montana.

how much were your plates? mine were only $120 for the first year. the first year on my ranger was about $400... i guess the 3500's get a really nice break here in mn. ;)

Mine were $800 down in Douglas County. The lady said it will go down next year by a whopping $120!

Up here in Larimer County, I wrote a check for $1495. 51 - that doesn't include the $650 or so in state taxes I paid when I picked up the truck. With Parshal paying $800 for his 2500, I can't see why a 3500 SRW would be double. Now that the numbness has worn off a little, think I'll take a trip and have them recheck - I really have that "taken to the cleaners" feeling. But if that's what I have to pay to enjoy my rig I'll pay it - just have to turn the heat in the house to 58 and skip eating three days a week.

Whatcha' Complaining About?

Omaha, Nebraska: $2,700. 00 to plate. Yes; that's Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars. And I was only paying sales tax on the balance after my $17,000. 00 trade in! Can you imagine? If I hadn't traded you can double that amount! And I bought one week before another 1/2 percent was added to the sales tax (save myself just under $400).

But "only" One Thousand Dollars is the plate; the other $1,700. 00 is sales tax.

Next year it'll be about $900; then $800; ...

You know; the rent we pay the government for the privilege of having "private property". Also known as the definition of property tax..... OMG don't get me started... .

i think that i will be doing a little double checking w/the state... why is it so high in those areas? that is hwy robbery! if it was me i'd probably still be driving my old 84...

Big MAK,

After seeing what you paid I don't feel quite so bad, but still bad. And you're right about the rent on "private property".

My $800 didn't include sales or state tax. That was ownership tax and RTD tax (Denver metro public transportation).

Those are ridiculous plate fees. Mine were $76. 12 for the plates and the sales tax is 6. 25% of the purchase price less trade in if applicable. 2 year inspection $21. 75 and $13. 00 title fee. I had heard that in Colorado the sales tax is a lot less than here.

I live in unincorporated Douglas County and my sales tax is something like 4. 7%. If I lived across the street it would be over 6%.

I registered two vehicles that were over 10 years old and the fees were $25 per vehicle. They get you with the new and heavy vehicles. Of course, here in Colorado (at least the metro Denver area) they take good care of the roads in the winter. They treat the roads before snow and plow everything very well. That's what we're paying for here.

Come to Ontario where you pay a total of 15% combined provincial and federal taxes. :( Ouch. At least our plates for personal vehicles are fairly reasonable.

In WA sales tax varies by county, mine was 8. 7 %. Registration for vehicles over 10000 GVWR ends up being just shy of $100. Hard to beat the tax man unless your rich.

yeah, it was >$250 iirc... that is like $3. 00 USD isn't it

having a gst # helps a lot. getting 7% back is good.

Only $79. 00 in Missouri, plus the one time sales tax for the difference between tradein and new truck. I think that was 6%, mine was around $330. 00. We have to pay Personal property tax every year on all vehicles and farm equipment, motor cycles, boats etc. I pay a couple hundred a year Personal property tax. All in all not bad.

They must be charging you guys commercial license fees. Here in Ohio the non-commercial 1 ton truck license fee is less than $100. (Dual wheels have no bearing on the fee amount, just the manufacturer's tonnage rating). It would be a shame to have to pay commercial fees for a truck that's not used commercially. But then we all pay a high Federal tax on the fuel for our Diesels that was originally intended to be a road use fee for the big trucks. By the way, don't forget about the $200 Federal tax rebate for the purchase of a new diesel pick-up. That rebate is supposed to off-set the excess tax we pay on the Diesel fuel. The rebate is for the year the vehicle is purchased. I believe you must use the long form, but it has nothing to do with whether you own a business. Don't ask someone at the IRS though, as the IRS people I've dealt with don't know poop from shineola!

WOW ZAA! I'm thinking about ordering a new '03 3500 SWR here in Nebraska. I guess I'm definitely going to check with the county assessor FIRST. I now have an '01 2500. Taxes last year were $395. 70, for a six ton plate. I don't think I need the six ton plate and I'm going to drop it this year. If the '03's are that much higher, then... ... ... . Maybe it's less out here in the sticks.

Missouri maybe the show me state, but Nebraska is the "tax me state" and it's going to get a LOT worse before it gets a little bit better.

My house taxes are about $200 a month and I have no palace in a so-so neighborhood. I guess we gotta pay for our schools, so the kids can wise up and MOVE to another state. Sorry. Don't get me started anymore that I have spouted already either!
