I am just shy of 16,000 miles on the 04, and since I don't have a trailer heavy enough to tow, I do have access to road millings. Would hauling around a hefty (maybe 2,000+ lbs. ) load of these millings for a few weeks help to loosen this motor up? I know 15,500 miles is a bit much to start thinking about break in, but when I bought it last Nov. , it only had 6,000 miles, and about 28 ave. MPH. Demo model=idle time.

Believe me, if you bought a demo and I don't want to scare you. That truck is broke in. Managers at dealers should not be allowed to demo diesels, they drive them like sport cars, never cool em down, idle them, sometimes start them cold without waiting for the "wait to start" to go out etc... I personally wouldn't own a previous demo or rental anything regardless of the discount, but thats my two-cents. Anyhow, I personally think your truck is broke in. I got my 2005 with 22 miles on the clock, I can honestly say I felt it was broke-in around 12K miles, mpg started staying consistent with 16. 8 city / 18-19 Hwy versus previously new 14. 4 city / 16-17 Hwy. An itermittant howl from the rear end, only when cold stopped happening around 12K miles, truck felt notably quicker too and smoother at idle etc...
