Hey Guys,

Im about to pull the OEM shocks to try and resolve a rumble that developed in the chassis after driving on a washboard road while towing my toyhauler. While I have them out I figure with 55K on the stock shocks I may as well replace them at the same time.

I tow heavy (10K-13K) about 50% of the time. Drive offroad (not race) about 5%. And commute the other 45%. I run timbrens in back for towing heavy.

Looking for a better replacement shock that will be around longer than 50K and with bushings etc that will last too. Also looking for a better than factory street ride.

Im leaning toward Bilsteins at the moment. Suspension to remain stock. What do you think?

Any and all recommendations or experiences appreciated.

From what I am reading here, Bilstein just designed a shock for the 3rd gen and they are building them now, soon to be shipped to a dealer near you. I had Bilsteins on my 98 and loved them. In fact when I traded in my 98 the bilsteins had something like 60K miles on them. First think I noticed bringing home the 02 was how bad the (brandnew factory) shocks felt. I would wait for the Bilsteins.

FYI,

Just got off the phone with Bilstein West sales dept.

They gave me the part numbers for the Heavy Duty shocks for my truck and Im almost positive they said they have shocks now for the 03-05 series trucks. They are about to ship them and said to give it 3 weeks for all their distirbutors to get them in stock.

That would make it about February 17th. Hmmm. wonder if the little lady would like some new shocks for Valentines? :)

The part numbers for my 04 3500 4x4 are:

Front - BE5-C604-H0

Rear - BE5-C614-H0

(0=zero, not the letter "o")

Since most distributors may not have the new part numbers on the books you probably should call Bilstein direct to get the correct part number for your truck before you order.

Looks like Im gonna wait on my replacemnt project.

Smooth Ridin'
