Ok... I am having some major difficulties fitting an air cleaner on this thing. No room to mount the big ol' clumsy stock airbox, and the BHAF that you guys are using appears to be about the same size. I want plumb something in and mount it up above the radiator... for now. I kinda got my eye on one of AFE's "universal" filters, but my main concern is whether or not one of these will flow/filter enough? :confused:

Any and all suggestion are of course greatly apprecaited.

There are two BHAF's. I have the smaller one. 8. 5"OD X 12. 38" long, Fleetguard #AH1141. The other is 10. 5" OD X 11. 88" long, Fleetguard #AH19037. Either one will fit perfectly on the flex hose going to the turbo. I paid $35 for the small one at Cummins and I think the large one is $54.

2nd Gen hose curves around 180deg; fender on the motorhome might get in the way (?). Worth looking into. I might have a lead on a 2nd Gen whose intercooler needs a new home; I can check on the airhose. No, Bill, this is a different one from the one I told you about.

I'd have no problem with an aFe PG7; might be leery of the regular grade cleanable/ reuseable filters, of any color. JLEONARD has the filter mounted directly on the turbo of his boat. I wouldnt recommend it for permanent in your MH; but it may do for a temporary set up.

There isn't really any "fenderwells" on this rig, per se (yes, you can service the sides of the engine just by crawling underneath the front wheels). Right now it looks as though I have the chocie of either placing the filter on top of the hot radiator or having the front wheel flinging rainwater all over it. :{

I was contemplating just installing the filter directly onto the end of the turbo, but no I don't want to do that permanently. Looks as though this project will never really be "done". I will probably be perpetually doing things to it to make it more powerful/efficient/easier to service.

Yes, I have an S&B filter *similar to K&N but VERY heavy duty and deeper pleats) mounted to the turbo... . on a boat, there is really no other place to mount a filter. There is also very minimal dust to contend with, but there is a lot of heat.

Cummins spec says engine room temp, ie intake air temp, should not exceed 30 deg F over ambient air temp during a wide open throttle run.

I do have enough engine room ventilation to meet that requirement... it was tested during my installation warantee inspection.

Don, if you can meet that spec I think you would be ok with a direct mount... . better to remote it if possible though.

Hope this helps.

I just installed a custom intake that I built and I tucked it in where the stock air box goes. There is a rectangular shaped air scoop that picks up behind the bumper and blows right into my filter. I've been toying with the idea of getting a combination radiator overflow/windsheild wiper fluid tank from a ford taurus and installing it where the current wiper fluid tank is. That would open up an area next to the radiator where I could cut a 5 inch hole in the sheet metal and fabricate an air funnel to relocate my filter into. I'm enclosing a pic of my current set-up
