Guys,

Gotta a problem that no one seems to be able to fix.

Here’s the problem:

With very light throttle application around 1200-1400 rpms the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd then right back to 1st then back to 2nd and so on. It will do this repeatedly until I either apply a little more throttle or apply it firmly, i. e. get on it slightly. It does it worse going over bumps (long dirt road) at slow speed at which point I just put it into to 1st until I am down the road, past the bumps. It will also do it badly first thing in the morning, cold, and especially going around a traffic circle like I have in my sub-division. Mind you it always does it as long as low speed, 1st gear, very light throttle application. 1-2-1-2-1-2, etc.

Been to several garages and this is what’s been done:

All software updates applied, most recent two weeks ago.

New main wiring harness for transmission to PCM.

New transmission shift solenoid and governor.

Transmission fluid and filter changed (no evidence of metallic shavings, chips, i. e. damage).

Bought the Trans Enhancer, no dice.

Nothing fixes it and I’m frustrated! Love the truck other wise but it’s going to eat my transmission so or later!

Truck is a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega, CTD, 48RE, 4x4, Dually built in JUL 06.

Nothing after market installed now except a PAC BRAKE.

MUCH HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 6 MONTHS!

Thanks,

Tony

Mine did the same thing (a 47RE in a 99), and dodge simply replaced it... it kept getting worse and worse.

Later, a transmission shop told me that it was most likely from to little line pressure. Line pressure is adjustable.

However, from experience, too much line pressure will cause the trans to go into limp mode.

I do not know if this would have worked on mine, because dodge simply threw a reman unit under it, but it might be worth looking into...

With everything you have done it is probably a VB problem. A little dirt, a little hang of a valve, something that only happens at low pressures.

It probably won't hurt the transmission but it does annoy the driver. :-laf Depending on how interested you are in fixing the problem as opposed to warranty, the problem can generally be addressed with the some after market parts and VB work.

My 99 was doing the exact same thing. If I shifted it manually everything worked ok. Changed the governor solenoid and pressure transducer. Everything is fine now. Your list does not show the pressure transducer.

My 06 does the same thing first to second at light throttle pressure. I've 38000 Miles on it so I don't think it would be covered under warranty. Issue 58 Of TDR page 96 at the bottom of the page has A TSB about the issue.

A good transmission shop should have checked the line pressure during shifts. The line pressure could be off as the shifts are controlled by line pressure to an extent.

What would you guys sugest, taking it back to the dealer or taking it to a shop? I am getting close to 36000 miles.

Take it to the dealer, let them work on it and figure it out, it could get expensive and if they can't fix it they might give you a new one all on their dime, you have the warranty on your side use it before it expires.

I noticed you said you had a trans enhanser? Is that the shift enhanser from DTT? If it is, I would find a dealer around you or an installer to have the shift enhanser reprogrammed. Not all trucks are the same and the set points that the enhanser is shipped with is a general base line which works for most trucks.

TSB 21-009-07 is for your exact symptoms. Also make sure front band is adjusted properly. You can also bump the line pressure up a tad and see what happens. And actually it is more annoying than detrimental.
