A brilliant idea, maybe ???

OK... . I think I have come up with the ultimate rearend gearing and tire setup for a sometimes fiver towing, mostly transportation vehicle.

Here's my idea. I want to tow a fiver about 11,000# with a 3500 48RE. I also want the best possible mileage when the truck is being used just for tranportation/highway driving (primary use). My brilliant idea is: 4. 10s with 315 BFGs (good looks) for the same 4th gear ratio as 3. 73s with stock 265 tires. Then, if I really need the lower gearing I can put the stock tires and rims back on for that really big luxury fiver I may own someday.

So tell me... am I brilliant or just confused ?

 Will my idea work as anticipated?

All experiences and drivetrain wisdom appreciated. :D

that would work. .

a gear vendor might be a bedder idea. .

low to start high on the road...

lets see what every one else has to add

Aren't the 315's load range "D"? Maybe a problem for towing heavy loads. The only time I ever experienced trailer sway was when I went from E's to D's on my 93.

The BFG ATs are load range D and are 8 ply. The Stock Michelien 265s were load range E and 10 ply. However, the weight ratings on both tires were the same I believe, or virtualy so. I like them for the heighth, they do rub some at full turn, but not a big deal so far. I will be playing w/ air pressure though, they don't ride as good as the stock tires did. They seem to lurch more, maybe just need more air in front, the guy put 45 psi in them & max is 50. They have slight bulge in front. They look great.
