A brilliant idea, maybe ???
OK... . I think I have come up with the ultimate rearend gearing and tire setup for a sometimes fiver towing, mostly transportation vehicle.
Here's my idea. I want to tow a fiver about 11,000# with a 3500 48RE. I also want the best possible mileage when the truck is being used just for tranportation/highway driving (primary use). My brilliant idea is: 4. 10s with 315 BFGs (good looks) for the same 4th gear ratio as 3. 73s with stock 265 tires. Then, if I really need the lower gearing I can put the stock tires and rims back on for that really big luxury fiver I may own someday.
So tell me... am I brilliant or just confused ?
Will my idea work as anticipated?
All experiences and drivetrain wisdom appreciated.
